Even the owner of Hargate Hall left us a fantastic review.
Our indie rock cover band ‘Punch The Air‘ have added a great new (Well old) song by Queen to our repertoire. ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’. This is a huge 1980’s tune that everyone knows and loves and always works brilliantly as a first dance song for your wedding too. It was written by Freddie Mercury and released on the 1980 Queen album ‘The Game’. The single reached No. 2 in the UK charts just pipped to the post by Dr Hook ‘When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman’. Mercury stated that he wrote the song as a tribute to Elvis Presley, which is obviously very clearly the case. Hire a wedding band for your reception party by contacting band leader Andy Starkey and let us handle all your live music entertainment.

If we had to pick a favourite venue for a Lichfield wedding band (and it is tough as there are so many great ones) it would have to be Lichfield Guildhall on Bore Street. ‘Punch The Air’ – Your Litchfield wedding band?
Lichfield is NOT spelled with a T, so is not to be mistaken for Litchfield, Hampshire. An area of the South East of England near Basingstoke, Reading and Whitchurch which we can also perform in.
‘Punch The Air‘ had a blast at a festival style wedding fair in Shropshire. We performed as a Brook House Farm Shrewsbury wedding band so here are our experiences and all the fun we had performing live and mucking around with the other exhibitors there. Watch us prove how we are the best Shropshire Function Band around, then simply contact band leader Andy Starkey for a very competitive quote.
Live entertainment songs performed in Shrops are Dakota by Stereophonics, I’m A Believer by The Monkees, Mr Brightside by The Killers. Wonderwall by Oasis, Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon, Hey Jude by The Beatles. We also decided to learn and play the Game Of Thrones theme tune for a chuckle. Shropshire function band ‘Punch The Air‘ indie rock function bandrepertoire will show you our full set of amazing pop tunes from modern day back through the decades to the 1950s. Later on in the afternoon we were even joined on stage by Britains Got Talent star singer Pippa Langhorne for Valerie by Amy Winehouse. Also some happy chap joined us on stage to for a cover of Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison.
Shropshire Function Band what we got up to
Watch as we get all Salop competitive with traditional style funfair games, there’s drone footage and we chat with other exhibitors. We eat some some Shropshire wedding cake supplier samples. Then we check out Shrops wedding dresses, there are guitar solo’s and we get a bit dizzy. We visit a Shropshire wedding photographer photo booth for hire to have our photos taken and eat some Indian street food. In total we took three Shrops wedding venue bookings from this wedding fair so it was a very successful (And tiring) days work for indie rock cover band Punch The Air. If you’re looking at another band instead of us have they gone to this extent to prove to you why you should book them?

A minute by minute blog of how things go down when you hire a corporate event live band.
The booking: This evening indie rock cover band ‘Punch The Air‘ are performing as a Corporate Event Live Band for an Awards Dinner ceremony. It’s in the largest venue we’ve ever played at ‘Stoke Town Kings Hall’ and we’re playing for an Automation Control company called Capula. They have a £6 billion turnover that make control panels for nuclear power stations. The venue is beautiful and is capable of holding 1300 theatre style, 450 diners (27.5 metres long by 21m wide). We’re taking a 4.5Kw PA system with us tonight which is over double what we would normally use for a wedding band or smaller sized event. Contact band leader Andy Starkey from live party band ‘Punch The Air’ to check on price and availability for your corporate event, awards dinner, charity fundraiser or company party.
3.25pm – I’ve loaded the van up with some last minute extras earlier on today as this is a pretty big venue. Now I’m off to pick up my good friend/sound engineer/musician Brendan who very nicely just happens to live around the corner from me and is available to help out today.
And we’re on the way as a Corporate Event Live Band
3.30pm – Brendan’s on board now and we set off for the corporate event. West towards Stoke (Bare with me we need to go west to get on the M6 before we head up North). There’s a 50 miles per hour speed limit all over the M6 still but at least we’re doing a constant 50mph. ‘Todd Terje’ keeps us amused on the radio with his brilliant new release ‘It’s Album Time’. Dusk appears in the distance so try and guess what month of the year it is?
4.20pm – 40 minutes ahead of schedule already we pull up out the front of Stoke Town Hall. I’m not exactly sure where we’re supposed to load into for corporate entertainment and park. I pop my head into the hall and WOW…..My jaw drops and I’m instantly blown away by the size and beauty of the room and the lighting rig. (Supplied by Hilton Studios). The room looks absolutely incredible washed in blues and reds with huge beams of light coming off the massive stage. They point towards a mirror ball which intern splits the light shining it back onto the walls and ceiling. For a moment I consider loading in through the front but decide to head off in the van. I find the service yard entrance to hopefully gain access to the back of the stage area.
4.45pm – We’re still driving around the crazy one way system of Stoke trying to find the service entrance. Eventually we find a small little entrance road and wait patently at the gate for someone to walk over and let us in.
Loading in an indie rock cover band
4.55pm – We start to load in through the back of the venue up a few steps past the back of the stage area directly onto the stage itself. Its much quicker having a fourth set of hands this evening and we’re in in less than 10 minutes with the van parked nice and near for a quick load out later on this evening. Hire a company event band.
5:06pm – Brendan starts to set up the PA system leaving me to set up my own gear, the mixer, mics etc. James calls….he’s been driving around trying to find the service entrance and now he’s lost. I direct him to the front of the venue then I get in his car and show him the way. He waits around again for someone to come and let him through the barrier while I head back in to continue setting up.
Stoke Town Hall Party Band
5.20pm – I’m still in awe of the venue. We’re going to be a fantastic awards dinner live band tonight I think to myself. I take a photo of how it all looks from our on-stage point of view. Set up is going smooth as silk for our corporate event live band, we wonder if there’s going to be enough leads, but we’re OK (Note to self, order EVEN MORE leads).
5.45pm – Stuarts drum kit is ready, the amps are all up, the guitars are all tuned, the mics are all set up. And we’re ready to sound check.
5.55pm – Its a good job we’ve got a larger PA this evening and its being run at nearly full volume. Brendan walks around the venue with iPad in hand mixing the sound. There are no feedback issues at all due to us all using in ear monitor systems and theres not much need for any digital reverb from the desk as there’s so much natural reverb in the hall already.
Sound checking indie cover band “Punch The Air’
6.05pm – We blast through a few tracks of different volumes and styles just to make sure everything’s level sounding, Brendan gives us the nod and we’re done sound-checking.
6.10pm – Blimey, we’re twenty minutes ahead of schedule and one of my corporate event live band contacts for the evening (A very pretty and smiley young lady) comes over introducing herself saying how brilliant we sound…..ah bless.
6.15pm – We start to pull all the excess cases etc off the front of the stage to store them at the rear where they wont be seen, then we head on upstairs to the dressing room. Its a very funny old 1970s looking room which is very cold, but there’s plenty of room for us and we even each get our own desk and mirror. (No one ever said this would be glamorous). We all get changed into our ‘Punch The Air’ uniforms and try to decide what to do next as there’s a lot of time to kill before we’re on stage this evening.
6.40pm – We head down to the main hall to grab a drink and have our pictures taken. I speak with the photographer Paul Briscoe whose a really, really nice guy. We laugh about how he’s covered in specks of white paint as he’s spent the day painting his studio for a big photoshoot tomorrow. He asks where our other band members are, I reply confused “Thats it, we’re a three piece”, he tells me that we’ve got one heck of a massive sound for a three piece.
Checking out the venue hire a corporate event live band
7.20pm – I wonder around the venue taking various photographs and video and even head up into the stalls for better views and photos. My other corporate event contact for the event introduces himself and we chat for a while. He’s really buzzing and can’t wait for the live music to start at their company party. We pop out a few promotional flyers while mingling with other guests. The mighty Phil Upton (BBC Radio DJ) is the compere for this evening, and a damn entertaining job he does throughout the event. This is why you book professionals.
7.55pm – Its nearly 8pm and we’re seated and being served our fancy three course meal for the night. It would seem that things are already running about 30 minutes late. I doubt that will improve as the evening continues, but hey, this is Rock N Roll. The client brings us some soft drinks vouchers for the bar. She says if we need anymore to just ask.
9.15pm – Desert time (But it should be the actual Awards ceremony). We laugh about a few recent gigs we’ve played together. Also the large scale corporate events due in the next couple of weeks.
9.45pm – I head on stage and set up some video cameras to capture the bands performance. Hire a company party band who can entertain your guests the entire night.
9.55pm – I chat with Photographer Paul again about the kind of shots I like featuring the band at these types of corporate events. He says he’ll probably be around until about 11:00pm. So he should at least be able to get a few shots of us in. What a nice chap eh.
Awards Ceremony live band
10.10pm – The Awards start, there’s lots of big-beat dance tunes played while people are accepting their awards.
10:40pm – It sounds like the Awards Ceremony is coming to an end so we start to warm up our voices and get ready to re-tune guitars etc.
10:50pm – This corporate event live band is ready to go. Due to how late the night is now running we have to cut the first set short by a few numbers which is a shame, but that’s how it goes sometimes at corporate events. We start the set with ‘I Fought The Law’ followed by a few more 1960s numbers. Just to warm everyone up. People are up and dancing from the off set enjoying themselves and singing along to ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ with us. The lighting really is phenomenal, complementing the music wonderfully. Brendan wonders around the room tweaking the sound, boosting the volume for solos. He’s also taking pictures and recording some video himself (He’s earning his money this evening)
11:15pm – The first set is finished and we head off stage and take a quick 5 minute break. I pop on some tunes over the PA…….that was short and sharp. Its a fantastic stage with plenty of space for crazy antics.
Onto the second indie rock band set book a corporate event live band
11:20pm – The second set starts with the lighter side of punk. Followed by some big 1970s singalong hits and massive indie rock cover band Britpop numbers. Most of the guests are up on the dancefloor dancing and singing their little hearts out. I spot photographer Paul doing his stuff (Ahhhhh, he stopped later than 11pm – Good man). There’s so much room on stage that we have the chance to really ham it up tonight with our live entertainment. So of course we do.
James appears through my legs at one point. We throw out some classic rock moves much to the crowds enjoyment. Everyone’s got their hands in the air for indie cover band ‘Place Your Hands’ by Reef, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ by The Beatles. There’s a massive arms around each other moment for ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis. We end the evening with ‘You Really Got Me” by The Kinks with an excellent extra long gratuitous solo by James. The crowd throw up some air guitars of their own proving we are a top rated party band.
12:10pm – A few announcements about the bar closing/taxis/buses etc and we’re done. A little bit of DJ material goes on while we head off to the dressing room. We get changed back into civilian clothing. Then we start to pack everything away. Some guests come up to congratulate us asking for business cards and contact details. Phew, what an amazing night at this splendid corporate event.
Time to pack away
12:40pm – Packing down is always a LOT quicker than setting up and we’re ready to load the gear back into the van again.
12:50pm – We wait patiently by the barrier (Again) waiting to get the vehicles out.
1:00pm – We’re now on the road heading back home. Brendan and I discuss how mysteriously smoothly the evenings events went.
1:40pm – I drop Brendan off at his house and wish him well. Then I head back to mine which is only just down the road.
1:50pm – I’m home and earlier than I suspected which is always great. I’m so glad we bought the extra PA system with us tonight and also Brendan was a massive help. I look at my phone and see we’ve had a text at 1am from the client (see testimonials below) . What a lovely end to the evening and what an amazing corporate event.
Testimonials Mike Fawcett – Capula Finance Director “Thanks a million for tonight it was truly awesome” (By text at 1am)

More about our Indie Wedding Band & the wedding Venue
It is very easy to have your Classic Indie Rock Anthems band Punch The Air set up and perform in the Ballroom as there is a door right next to the stage area (Which is right next to the parking area) for easy loading in and out. It’s pretty much 5 steps and a single door and we’re in. Then we’re ready to set up thus leading to minimum disruptions. As Somerford Hall Staffs features many little side rooms and corridors guests are easily able to be in a different part of the building while this professional party band set up and soundcheck. When you book a wedding band in Brewood we’ll handle all your live entertainment.
You’ll hear massive Indie cover band Anthems from Oasis, The Killers, Kings Of Leon, Pulp, The Fratellis. Plus pop chart hits repertoire from modern day all the way back through to the 50’s. We’ll bring along everything needed to make your wedding an amazing night to remember forever. This includes PA, speakers, lighting, and DJ services until midnight. So that’s all your evening live entertainment sorted with no other faffing around.
The Ballroom at Hall.
The Ballroom is a perfect size for Punch The Air as it is 12m x 7m. There is plenty of room for the wedding band to perform. Subsequently leaving lots of great space for guests to dance or just sit down and enjoy the music. The sound of the room is slightly echoy due to the high walls and ceiling. Once there are a few guests in the room the echo is quickly absorbed. Our indie rock cover band will make sure the room sounds fantastic for you and all your guests.
Serving food at Somerford Brewood Wedding Band reception venue
One of the great things about Somerford Hall Stafford is that the evening buffet can be served in one of the many other little rooms off the Ballroom. This way its not taking up space in the main live wedding entertainment area.
Volume levels for Staffs wedding band
Although the Somerford Hall website states that volume must be limited to 75 decibels there is no noise limiter. Therefore this did not prove an issue for wedding party bandPunch The Air while performing live there on any occasion. We’ve performed many wedding receptions at this Stafford wedding venue with guests often coming as far as Cheshire, Congleton and Macclesfield. We can highly recommend Somerford Hall for your special day due to its beautiful interior and exterior and accessibility.
3:20pm – I set off for Taunton, to perform in Somerset at a 40th Birthday Party Band bright and early in the mid afternoon. It’s a very long way away and I don’t want to be late by getting caught up in traffic allow the way of this mammoth journey from Lichfield. But long haul travel is a necessary evil for professional musicians. Classic Indie Rock party band ‘Punch The Air’ are playing in a barn on a farm for a 40th Birthday Party tonight. The client also hired our additional late night DJ services after so I doubt I’m going to be home before 4am tomorrow. Yes, thats four o’clock in the middle of the night. Maybe I should have booked a hotel. Find out more about our indie rock birthday party band package. View our many live videos, peruse our galleries then contact band leader Andy Starkey for to check on price and availability for your birthday party.
The client chose to hire a 40th Birthday Party Band
3:30pm – My sat nav (Apple Maps) tells me that the best way to get to the M5 is through Sutton Coldfield and then Wylde Green, Erdington and onto the M6 (Personally I would’ve thought the M42 would be quickest, but I assume it knows best……)
4:00pm – I’m still not even on the M6 yet…..Next time (and on the way back) I’ll use my own instincts.
5.00pm – I’m well into the journey on the M5 now and even though there are lots of 40 & 50mph road work speed limits the traffic is moving nicely. I listen to Radio 2, Abba Gold (Hey even indie rock dudes like us like a bit of ABBA) a bit of the Beatles and make a few phone calls to while away the motorway hours.
5:30pm – I’ve just passed Bristol and Portishead so it’s not THAT much further now until indie cover band ‘Punch The Air’ arrive.
Slightly wrong venue
6:10pm – I pull up at completely the wrong farm (And so has everyone else attending the 40th Birthday a man tells me who directs me to the correct farm)…..Again thanks Apple Maps.
6:12pm – I pull into the correct venue of the 40th Birthday party, a large ground with multiple tents, buildings and barns everywhere and I’m directed into a barn containing cows. I notice the “Farmyard” smells for just a few moments until it becomes a part of natural breathing. Tonight it seems we’re playing on the back of a trailer and I’m able to pull the van right up to the rear of it and keep it there all night. (Thank goodness they’ll be no dragging PA speakers through muddy fields). Stewart (Our session/dep drummer for the evening due to Matt being currently on holiday in Thailand) must have arrived very early as he’s already completely set up.
There are a couple of little kids hanging around who have apparently been enjoying themselves playing on Stu’s drums while he waits for me. I think this is going to be a great night for our indie rock cover band.
6.15pm – Stu and I start to pull all the gear from the van and decide where its going on and off stage. A wooden dance floor has been laid out and there are a couple of lights on the wall. There’s a couple of kegs of beer and various spirits and bottles of wine up the far corner bar. The barn is done out in true barnyard style with bales of hay making up seating areas and huge round wooden tables. Its gonna be one heck of a ho-down tonight.
Book a 40th Birthday Party Band – Meeting the client
6:20pm – The 40th Birthday girl introduces herself to us and we chat for a while about booking live entertainment. She’s a lovely gal.
6.25pm – James arrives and starts to unload his gear. There are multiple questions from the group of kids hanging around and a little girl calling herself “Fizzy” quickly hooks herself onto us. I worry that there is not going to be enough power sources nearby but our 25 and 50 meter power extension cables do the job nicely.
6:56pm – The initial set up of our backline is nearly complete and we’re just about ready to sound check. It’s clear from the offset that the PA is going to have to be a lot louder than usual so its a good job we’ve got 1.6Kw of power to play with. There’s a slight issue when “Phantom Powered” microphones and I have to re-check input levels again, but nothing major. I’d spent a good few hours with the PA on Friday morning tinkering with bass, gate and EQ settings and its really paid off as we sound better than ever. I can hear myself crystal clear on stage through my in ear radio monitoring system so that makes me happy and calm.
7.12pm – During soundcheck “Fizzy” asks for some Guns N Roses, so James obliges. Followed by various other classic rock requests from her.
Ahead of schedule
7.30pm – 30 minutes ahead of schedule I pop the DJ iPad software on over the PA and we get the party started way ahead of schedule. I set up the custom projector logo I created for the client. Which you can see in the below image. It features images of the passions in life. Farming, sailing, hockey and skiing. Pretty cool eh
7.34pm – Guests start to appear and I continue to set up more on stage and dance floor lighting. It’s a good job I bought EVERYTHING with me as its a huge barn and what with there being no wall behind us the light would just be getting lost otherwise. Kids dance the way only kids can dance and a little toddler dressed in red is already having the time of his life…..I hope they get to see us perform live later on.
8:10pm – I get changed into my onstage clothing and pop out to mingle with guests.
8.40pm – Its starting to get dark now and “Backstage” i.e. in the actual cow shed its getting very dark and I wonder how we’ll be able to see how to get up on stage later. But we borrow a large torch (Now on my shopping list) and we can see what we’re doing. Later on we find a floodlight…even better.
8:45pm – The toddler dressed in reds parents introduce themselves to us and tell us that “Noah” loves music and he’ll no doubt be right at the front of the stage dancing his little heart out later…..The more the merrier we say.
First live performance by 40th Birthday Party Band
9.00pm – Here goes the first set. There’s Beatles, The La’s, Wonderstuff (Dedicated to the real life cows behind us that we must be keeping awake), Amy Winehouse and more. Thats the indie rock cover band audience members catered for. The crowd are up and dancing from the off set, and so is little toddler Noah……bless him.
9.20pm – We all sing a classic Happy Birthday to the birthday girl, followed by our own full band version.
9.40pm – The client joins us onstage to sing ‘Johnny B Goode’ (unbeknown to us, but still tonnes of fun), we even change the words to her name. This is why Punch The Air are a top rated party band. We later find out that she used to play the track in a band she had when she was a teenager. Its nice to know you can still remember words to songs 25 years later eh.
Wonderwall by Oasis is performed next.
Little toddler Noah waves us all a lovely farewell on the second to last song of the set before he’s taken off to bed by his parents.
First live performance closes
9.50pm – This Charming Man closes the first set (Both sets have been tailored to suit a 40th Birthday Party). I announce over the PA (At the clients request) that it time for all the kids to go to sleep. Now so all the adults can party without them. I stick on some modern pop music and we quickly head off stage. We down a few pints of water and head out to help ourselves to the buffet. The caterers at this 40th Birthday have produced some of the best tasting treats I’ve ever eaten. The pig roast (Supplied by a different local supplier) is out of this world (Pictured).
We feed goats, stroke dogs, entertain some of the remaining kids still awake. Also we chat with guests (Who try to quiz us on what’s coming up in the second set) and catch up with the birthday girl.
10.05pm – I sample a pint of the local amber ale that’s on tap and very nice it is too. The parties in full swing now and everyone’s hankering for us to go back on stage again.
40th Birthday Party Band second set commences
10.40pm – We tune up and quickly start the second live set with some light hearted punk/pop.
10.47pm – Everyone’s back on the dance floor singing and dancing along. We play a classic Pulp hit, a few 80s numbers and its time for the audience to sing the rest of the set to us. Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Kings Of Leon, we pay them all.
10.59pm – The audience are now up on tables, hay stacks and giant cable coils acting as makeshift tables. The crowd scream out for more.
11.40pm – We’re still going…..
11.45pm – We leave the stage to passionate applause and I pop a bit of Blur on, followed by Queen. It not over yet though as…..
11.53pm – We’re back on stage for a final encore. Help by The Beatles followed by a request that we don’t usually get the opportunity to perform live. ‘One Day Like This’ by Elbow. It was requested by the client to be played on the DJ playlist but why not go one better and perform it live for her 40th Birthday Party?
11.55pm – “Throw those curtains wide, one day like this a year will see me right” everyone sings with us.
Second set ends
12.05am – And the live sets are finally over and the DJ set starts up. Many members of the audience come up and shake us by the hand congratulating us on such a wonderful performance. The client comes over to thank me and I notice she doesn’t seem all the inebriated…..”I’ve not been drinking” she informs me…..Imagine that, sober on your 40th Birthday…..each to their own eh. She thanks us for a brilliant night, but its not over yet.
12.10am – The client requested a collection of songs to be performed DJ wise. I slip those on for her as we begin the laborious task of packing everything down. That we can do without disturbing PA speakers or dance floor lighting.
12.35am – We’re asked for a couple of requests by guests, so they go on too. Guitars, amps and drums are cleared away and so is a heck of lot of cabling…..I’m still always surprised how much gear we own and what it takes to get ‘Punch The Air’ its own unique thick sound. James disappears off back home and Stu very, very kindly offers to stick around. He going to help me out with the rest of the gear when the nights over.
1.00am – The 40th Birthday party band is over. We give the last of the dancers a round of applause. Stu and I start to pack away the rest of the PA and lighting. The vans very near, so this shouldn’t take too long. The client thanks me again and asks me if I want any food to eat on the way home. I take a little cheese and fresh fruit to hopefully keep me awake later.
Leaving the venue
1.15am – We finally leave the farm and start the long journey home. Having discussed with Stu a quicker way back when I reach the Midlands I’m confident I can be home before 4am.
2.30am – Making good time and listening to some great tunes. But it pains me to have to pull into a motorway service station. I need for some fuel. At least it’s a swanky new forecourt and interior at Gloucester. The cashier is nice and cheerful for this time of night.
3:40am – I’m home and 20 minutes earlier than I’d hoped. I pour myself a glass of honeyed vodka with ice and head off to bed (Come on, I deserve it). It really was a great book a 40th Birthday party band affair. The client was really lovely, it was a brilliant makeshift venue. The crowd were really up for it all night long, and we sounded better than ever. I love it when a plan comes together.
JOB DONE.
The following day we receive this lovely testimonial from the client: “Absolutely ROCKING night – thank you to all the band for a superb night – we loved every minute of it!!!”

Incidentally at the rear of the Great Hall is a room full of taxidermied animals such as buffalo, birds, & cats. Also various other strange creatures, you really should take a look sometime. Our indie rock cover band found this especially entertaining.
It’s worth noting that gates are locked at midnight so as such the evenings entertainment needs to be completed by 11.30pm.

Shenstone Wedding Band at the Village Hall
The main room in this WS14 village hall is a fantastic size for live entertainment, It’s nice and wide and also just the right length. Some echo off the rear wall can be heard bouncing back onto the stage when you hire a wedding band in Shen Stone. But only when there are no guests in the room. So it is soon soaked up when guests arrive at this Staffordshire party venue.
The is a small rear room which is fantastic for serving drink and nibbles from. There is also a side room where you can set up your buffet. The Village Hall Staffs is visible from the main Birmingham Road. But you have to drive through a winding estate to actually reach it. In the main room tables are best pushed to the sides of the room. This give guests plenty of space for dancing on the hard wooden floors.
